KUBLA/MAGELLAN

Organized by FOR THE LOVE OF PITS

11/20/2009 Kubla has passed on.
He was doing great yesterday, he actually exhibited some feeling in the hind legs, and this morning before 8:00 a.m. he had eaten although not as much as normally. When a vet tech went to check on him at 9:00 he was not moving much and his pupil was dilated. Kubla/Magellan had suffered a severe stroke between the hours of 8:00 â?? 9:00 a.m. I was contacted about 10:00 as they wanted to monitor him a bit longer and was advised that his time had come and that he was in a great deal of pain. They had heavily sedated Kubla and when I arrived at the vet office I was able to hold him while he was peacefully let go. Kubla was a very loved member of our family, we had always hoped we would find a perfect home for him, however that was not in the plan. I will have him cremated and brought home.

In his honor I am starting a Kubla Foundation. I will help one geriatric Pit Bull at a time. I will focus on those that no one wants, that are beat up and have had crappy lives and bring him/her here to live out what ever time is left for them. I feel that Kubla would like that, as he was a dog that no one wanted, no rescue would take him, and his time was up when I rescued him from Spalding in GA. This is the kind of dog that will come here next, one much like Kubla. He/she will not be a replacement as there will never be a dog to replace him nor do we expect one. However I know there will be a dog that comes around that will be in the same age group and situation as Kubla was and we will welcome him/her with open arms. A website will be created for the Kubla Foundation and once it is completed I will post to you with the hope that you will consider donating to it so we can help another dog with a similar circumstance as Kublaâ??s.

For those of you that donated, a heartfelt thank you, I am not sure what the final invoice for his vetting is or the fee for the cremation will be, and if you would still like to donate for Kublaâ??s care and cremation, we will be grateful. And if by some chance there is anything left, it will go towards the next special needs senior in need we bring here; those funds will not be used for any other dog.

Thank you for your kind consideration.

REST IN PEACE SWEET KUBLA, MAY YOU RUN THROUGH FIELDS OF TALL GRASS, FREE OF PAIN AND A HEART FULL OF JOY.

11/19/2009 Kubla/Magellan update
He seemed depressed today, still no use of the rear legs, he does have major pain feeling which is a good sign. He is still being aggressively treated with acupuncture, meds, IV and one other form of treatment. Still no urine control, and sporadic bowel movement. The vet anticipates 2-4 week stay at the hospital. They had a similar situation with a toy poodle and after 4 weeks he walked out of there. I am very hopeful Kubla will follow suit and walk out of there. This is so hard on him, and I hate leaving him every day after my visit, and try to tell him this is best for right now. I will go and visit today and take some photos of him as he his today:(
Why there is no limit to the chip-in
I have not set a limit as I truly do not know what we are in for here. Whether Kubla will need continued acupuncture...or be deemed paralyzed and purchase of a wheel chair will be in order. Once I have a better feel from our vet hopefully by the end of this week or beginning of next I will then try to put a limit which I feel will cover at least part of the necessary funding.

Thank you,

Sylva & Kubla

KUBLA/MAGELLAN'S STORY
Magellan, which is the first name we gave him, and he did not resond it so we changed it to Kubla, which responded to immediately. Kubla was pulled out of the Spalding Animal Shelter in Georgia approximatley 6 months ago. He came here full of ticks, nearly emaciated and with an eye injury, he also had one of the worst heartworm cases my vet had ever treated. His eye was removed, his heartworm status treated and he was neutered.

We are now faced with a horrible challenge. One day he was fine and the next day he could barely walk. I took him immediately to the vet and was prescribed medication. In the next 24 hours he appeared to be deteriorating and was taken to the vet again, where he remains as of 11/17/09, this has occurred over the last 3 days. Kubla has lost the use of his rear legs. He is on IV and will receive acupunture today as the vet feels it is a neck disc challenge. If that does not work, he will need to go in for an MRI, which my vet feels strongly will be the case. He will have to be transferred to another facility for this and it will be determined whether he is a candidate for surgery. I know that MRI's are not inexpensive. Our dog fund has been exhausted Garth's bloat surgery completely wiped us out, that being in excess of $3700.00, 49% of his vetting bill was covered by your generous donations.

We are faced with asking for assistance again, we have had many challenges in the last couple of months, Garth's bloat surgery, Tyson's amputation and jaw bone infection, Ruthi's infection of the lower jaw and teeth having to be extracted.

Once again, I am asking for the community to pull together for his fantastic dog name Kubla. He has proved to be one of the best dogs that we have had the pleasure of having here. Kubla was the puppy sitter, he loves everything and everyone, I want him to be able to have a chance at finding his perfect family and not end up a paraplegic dog that stays here. However with that said, if he does end up a paraplegic we will either keep him here and purchase a wheel chair for him, and hopefully still be able to find that special home for him. He will never be without love, whether it is here or in his very own hom. Please help me make this possible for Kubla/Magellan.

His appetite is fantastic, this tells me he wants to fight a good fight and we need your help for him to do this.

You may donate under this chip-in or go through BARK where he is listed as Magellan.
